Indian Public and the Indian cricket selectors are indecisive over who's mightier - the Game or the Players. The media here plays a major role in influencing the decision to go in favor of the latter, media is more concerned about the off field activities rather than highlighting the player's talent and flaws.

Cricket is religion in India and the Players living deities, then why do the fanatics feel crestfallen on every Indian defeat? Who's responsible - if I were to judge I would hold the public responsible for its own dejected state.
Many out there would disagree - the reason being their intense passion, mind-it not for the game but for the performers. It's high time that the Indian enthusiasts realize that these name have to be left only to the sport, I do agree they deserve the accolades for representing the country but that's it - making them a house hold name is mere idiotism.
There have been repeated hierarchical changes in the selection committee but one thing unchanged is repeated criticisms it faces for its poor judgment and biased selections, but have we realized what causes these selections - the Celeb status of the players. What makes the Ausies the best team in the world, differentiating them from the others - for India its strength is a bunch of players whom it just doesn't want to part with whereas for the World champions the team strength is that they don't rely on one two players, they play as a collective unit with every individual knowing his task irrespective of the big names.
The Indian Cricket Board is the richest sporting organization in the world, and in a country where other games lack basic amenities (even the National game), the cricketers are amongst the highest paid sportspersons in the world and to top it the sentimental value that is attached to a few players is the imp root that has marred the sport in the country.
