Indian Cricketers are Ready and Willing for West Indies Tour; Team Selection on 13 May

Call it a typical PR ( public relations ) exercise from arguably the richest cricket body. But could one expect the Indian cricket board to come out and say otherwise? The Indian selectors will be sitting down to pick India's ODI squad on the 13th May, thereby officially revealing who is on the flight to the Caribbean.

Whether the players are to blamed for the statement or the board is doing a great cover up job remains to be seen. What is not in denial is that the Indian cricketers have not shied away from talking about how packed their cricket schedule has been although they have publicly refrained from letting statements be directly attributed to them about wanting to skip a tour or part of a tour as a result of it.

However, the board is either in denial or refusing to listen to the feelers. In the spirit of business as usual, the BCCI has announced that Krishnamachari Srikkanth and the rest of the Indian selection panel will be picking India's ODI and Twenty20 squad for India's tour of the West Indies.

With at least a couple of players expected to miss out from India's ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 squad, particularly through injury concerns, one can expect one or two relatively unknowns coming into the equation.

It would seem that on the face of it, the Indian cricketers either do not want to escalate their demands for rest at this point or the BCCI has put its foot down about its commitment to maintaining a full strength for the bilateral series with the West Indies. Either way, another full tour is on and the Indian cricketers are expected to leave just two days after the IPL 4 final, and it will mean that Indian cricket fans had better brace themselves, having already given the IPL 4 something of a cold shoulder, following the World Cup rush.
