While Virender Sehwag left the Delhi Daredevils midway through the IPL 4 season to get surgery for his troubled shoulder, similar may be the route for Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain.
With the Kolkata Knight Riders set to feature in the IPL 4 eliminator against the Mumbai Indians with the chance to progress beyond to the IPL 4 qualifier 2 and thereafter the IPL 4 final, Gambhir will continue to work through the pain for the sake of the team. Gambhir has been the IPL 4's most expensive cricketer at the IPL 4 auctions and he has proved his worth to Shah Rukh Khan and the rest of the KKR franchisee owners by captaining the team from start and into a position for a possible place in the IPL 4 final, which would be a huge distance covered for a team that has languished at the bottom of the heap in the past three IPL seasons.
However, like Sehwag, Gambhir's injury could cause him to skip the India West Indies ODI series altogether, this despite Gambhir being named the Indian captain with Mahendra Singh Dhoni being rested. Although it is not confirmed yet, Gambhir's shoulder injury is said to be serious enough and if that is the case, perhaps Yuvraj Singh may be eying that Indian captaincy role even as some may indeed bring up the discussion yet again on the club versus country scenario with Gambhir pulling through in the IPL 4, given that his team is now in the business end of it.
