The second match in IPL 2 to be rained out, the match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders was a wash out affair at Cape Town. However, there was more brewing, rain or no rain.

Rain kept only a few people guessing. For most others it was as obvious as the rained out match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians a few days earlier. But the KKR team were fighting other controversies off the field. First there was the case of John Buchanan bundling Sourav ‘Dada’ Ganguly out of the captaincy role. Then there was the case of Shah Rukh Khan fighting everyone from Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri to the street side tea vendor over their opinion of what was happening in the KKR dressing room. Then there was the case of abandoning ‘Kolkata’ from the Knight Riders, an impossible feat of course.
There was only the matter of the “Fake IPL player” who threatened to wash in public all of KKR’s dirty linen. It led to rubbishing of such claims, then claims of nabbing the man in question and some even stating that Ranadeb Bose who was with the KKR team last year being responsible for the blog. All were rubbished but KKR continued to state they would soon catch the culprit who, they say, could not leak any information. Why the attention then?
The latest in the controversy list was the fact that KKR decided to send back Aakash Chopra and Sanjay Bangar, two players only days ago who were feted highly by John Buchanan who picked them and current KKR captain Brendon McCullum. It is amazing how in ten days, the team management suddenly decided that these two senior players did not have a role to play and it would be unfair to keep them on the benches any longer.
It appears the strains in the dressing room are soon going to either have to come clean or simply melt away if the KKR are to make confessions, clear their conscience and focus on the task on hand – on the field!
