In the battle of the near bottom scrappers, the Royal Challengers Bangalore prevailed over the ailing Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders. But it was not an easy game at Kingsmead, Durban.

Chris Gayle slammed a thirty-seven ball forty and South Africa’s Morne van Wyk followed up with his own forty-three from thirty-five balls as KKR posted 139 after Anil Kumble bowled an economical four runs per over spell while taking two wickets. Kevin Pietersen opened the bowling and picked up KKR captain Brendon McCullum’s wicket that started the steady slide for Mallya’s Bangalore team.
Sreevats Goswami’s forty-three runs formed the crux of the RCB innings. While his presence in the team meant that an indifferent Robin Uthappa had to make way, it still needed the presence of mind of Mark Boucher to complete the match victory with a ball to spare in Kevin Pietersen’s final match as captain of the RCB for IPL 2.
Had either team lost, only more embarrassment awaited them. But while the KKR have been a disgruntled team displayed in their results as well, the RCB wanted to win this one at least badly because fewer teams come to the fore more in disarray than Shah Rukh Khan’s team.
