Chennai overcame the early loss of their openers with a blazing knock from Suresh Raina to send the Rajasthan Royals packing.

The defending champions from the inaugural season of the IPL have not had it easy in South Africa. It was further emphasized as Yousuf Pathan opening the bowling accounted for the wickets of Matthew Hayden and Parthiv Patel and yet Chennai Super Kings brought out magic out of their hat in the form of Suresh Raina’s ninety-eight.
The scoreboard error may have denied Raina the well deserved century but he would have settled to watching his team gallop to victory on his innings. His partnership with the promoted Subramaniam Badrinath for sixty-seven was just the fillip the Chennai team needed after the early loss of the openers. Chennai made 164 largely because of the belligerence of Suresh Raina who has been in good form right through the tournament so far.
The Royals who would have thought they had snagged the crucial opening partnership early were left to watch in mesmerized fashion as Raina cut loose for ninety-eight off just fifty-five balls that included ten hits to the boundary and five sixes.
The Royals have struggled with their batting and despite Rob Quiney’s opening knock of twenty-eight, Albie Morkel removed the regular openers including his own South African captain Graeme Smith. Ravindra Jadeja tried his best with thirty-seven and Yousuf Pathan tried more heroics but his twenty was woefully short as Chennai won by thirty-eight runs at Centurion.
