Despite Adam Gilchrist’s impetus, the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers choked to leave Delhi with a memorable win at Kingsmead, Durban.

The Delhi Daredevils made 173, riding on the back of useful contributions from Dinesh Karthik, AB de Villiers and Tillekeratne Dilshan. Identical scores of forty-four for Karthik and de Villiers and thirty-seven for Dilshan proved the middle order that has often bailed out the Daredevils when their top guns, Virender Sehwag (batting lower down the order) and Gautam Gambhir have failed.
The Deccan Chargers’ chase was set alight by Gilchrist’s sixty-four, a trail blazing effort in itself off just thirty-three balls. Ravi Teja’s twenty-seven and Andrew Symonds’s forty-one from twenty-two balls were also furthering propositions for the Hyderabad team before Rajat Bhatia struck deadly blows.
Symonds and Dwayne Smith returned to the pavilion in the same over with the score reading six down for 150. But the final thirteen runs proved too much for the stunned Chargers who succumbed by twelve runs in the end to finish disappointingly an innings that started with a blaze.
