IPL 2 Game 54: Kings XI Punjab Suffer Heartbreak, CSK Through

It was curtain calls for Kings XI Punjab the same day that the defending champions, the Rajasthan Royals, were given the boot. As they now pray for an outside miracle, the loss to Chennai Super Kings at Durban will haunt them for sometime.

The Chennai appeared to have slipped just before the semi final stage. As it turned out, they managed to get the equation just right for the crucial two points that furthered their lead over the rest of the pack, barring the Delhi Daredevils. The Kings XI Punjab though faltered in their chase of 117, crushed by Muttiah Muralitharan who was accompanied by another pair of spin twins, Suresh Raina and Ashwin, who together spelt doom.

The CSK had nothing much to show besides Parthiv Patel’s thirty-two and Suresh Raina’s twenty as they were stopped in their tracks by their own trappings and by Sreesanth and Irfan Pathan. But the Kings XI Punjab had woes of their own, ending up with six down for sixty and left to rue missed opportunity right through the season.

They now await a miracle but with a run rate that took a beating last night, their chances to arrive amongst the final four have all but wilted for Yuvraj Singh and Preity Zinta.
