There were two battles within one in this one. Rajasthan Royals came with their heads held high. But in a case of pride goes before a fall, they lost rather embarrassingly and that too to a team that was made a mockery of last year by all and sundry. While the Royals Challengers Bangalore have also seen a return to old ways in their second match against the Deccan Chargers, the Royals have a point to prove smarting as they are.
The Mumbai Indians could not have expected a better start. Not only was Sachin Tendulkar leading at the helm, but he was also instrumental in getting them the first win of the tournament in the match against last IPL’s finalists Chennai Super Kings. With victory and unusual confidence under their belt, this was expected to be a match of interesting proportions.
It was also touted as the match between two ingenuous cricketing brains leading their respective teams. But the expected clash between Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne was not even allowed to take place on the field as rain that marred the Kings XI Punjab match against eventual winners Kolkata Knight Riders put paid to the second match in Kingsmead, Durban.
