Adam Gilchrist was the star performer in the other southern clash and the Royal Challengers appearing to be slipping away backwards as the Deccan Chargers continue to make amends for the last IPL season.

Game 8 of the IPL 2 saw the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers take guard against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Newlands, Cape Town. And leading the way was none other than their skipper Adam Gilchrist whose forty ball seventy-one set up a great foundation for Rohit Sharma to continue from as the RCB found themselves with the highest IPL 2 target to chase.
Deccan Chargers ended formidably on 184 as Sharma notched a fine half century for himself. Between the two men passing on the baton from one to the other, Deccan Chargers failed to be reined in the RCB bowlers despite taking the wickets of Herschelle Gibbs and V.V.S. Laxman. With Sharma proving to be a solid performer with the bat, the Chargers did not lose the momentum at the fall of Gilchrist’s wicket but rather pushed on to a target that was eventually beyond the RCB’s reach.
The Royal Challengers were not without their feisty battles. But one would have to wonder how without the likes of Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor, Jacques Kallis himself or Kevin Pietersen firing, how Kallis can be self assured of the RCB making the semi finals.
Rahul Dravid once again stood out for his twenty-seven ball forty-eight, proving their main stay even as the team was reduced to sixty-two for four at the fall of captain Kevin Pietersen. Following in Dravid’s footsteps was young Virat Kohli brandishing a half century to his name. But in a situation where the RCB lost too many wickets up front and allowed the run rate to froth over, it was an effort in vain as Chargers raced away to a twenty-four run victory.
