IPL 2: Twenty20 With a Long Commercial Break!

Count on the IPL to make more money while the rest of the world continues to reel, economically at least. As if enough money was not already being pumped into the cricket extravaganza, the IPL 2 organizers have announced another fifteen minute break, expected to rake in a whole lot of new moolah!

The IPL 2 will see two seven and a half minute break in the course of the match. Each will take place after the first ten overs of the innings. It is quite obvious that this is another attempt to increase revenue from advertising, as the television viewers of the IPL comprise in the millions.

But fans at the stadium as well as those in front of the television sets would agree that this is a rather unnecessary break. Not only would it distract the course of the match but also, have fans distracted by the break by switching to other channels, especially when the Lok Sabha elections are just round the corner in India.

The IPL 2 organizers have diplomatically allocated the division of three two and a half minutes into one where the players would be shown with drinks while the other will comprise short documentaries that are expected to fetch big money for the organizers. The third slot will comprise ads.

Another ingenuous ploy and one that has got nothing to do with cricket.
