Lalit Modi, the IPL Commissioner, must wonder what it is about opening ceremony of IPL tournaments. For a second year in a row, he is having to revise his venue for the opening ceremony. The IPL 2 though saw a dramatic change of venue for the entire tournament eventually.

The IPL 3 opening ceremony is now being shifted from Hyderabad to Mumbai and the reason is the battle in Andhra Pradesh over a separate Telangana state. The decision was made after the Telangana protestors tried to disrupt the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers from their practise.
While Hyderabad will host other IPL matches, the opening ceremony will now rest in the hands of the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai on 12th March, 2010.
