However, the Pune Warriors were not only able to overcome the Kings XI Punjab easily but also, send them a step below them in the IPL 4 points table. In that, Yuvraj Singh himself played an important cameo towards the end to accelerate the Pune Warriors' end.

Kings XI Punjab's batting efforts centred around Paul Valthaty, Shaun Marsh and Dinesh Karthik, following the early loss of the KXIP captain, Adam Gilchrist, through the bowling heroics of Rahul Sharma who led the trio of Wayne Parnell and Bhunveshwar Kumar. However, Valthaty's innings came to a halt on twenty-three and between Karthik and Marsh, the latter sweet timed his innings of thirty-two as KXIP could not carry on beyond the wicket of Marsh, at three down for eighty. The Kings XI Punjab underscored at 119, leaving Pune Warriors a golden opportunity to break their seven match loss streak.

The Pune Warriors played a relatively easy innings for victory, Manish Pandey watchful while Robin Uthappa consistent. However, the show stealer was the Pune Warriors captain himself. Yuvraj Singh played a rushed knock, thirty-five runs coming only from fifteen runs, punctuated by five fours and two sixes. The Pune Warriors were finally able to get a win back under their belt, this with three overs to spare.
