The Chennai Super Kings kept their targets achieved in their home town even as the Delhi Daredevils struggled without their captain in the IPL 4 season.

With Virender Sehwag ruled out of the rest of the IPL 4 season with an impending shoulder surgery, the Delhi Daredevils suffered a huge blow in the absence of the IPL's highest run scorer. James Hopes took on the captaincy duties but it would not change the team's fortunes.
On the contrary, the Chennai Super Kings relied on three important batting innings to overpower their opponents. Murali Vijay provided the impetus at the top with thirty-five runs while Subramaniam Badrinath and the Chennai Super Kings captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, provided the flourish that helped Chennai to a huge total of 176.
Badrinath showed yet again his form and his resolve as he lapped up fifty-five runs from only forty-three balls, making the Delhi Daredevils bowlers suffer. However, his efforts paled in front of his skipper who seemed restless for runs. Their partnership for the fourth wicket was worth ninety-six runs.
But it would be fair to say that Dhoni made the lasting impression on the match. The Chennai Super Kings captain rattled sixty-three runs off only thirty-one balls, scoring as many as four sixes and five boundaries in his stay that made the difference in deciding the winner on the day.
With a tough target to chase and no Sehwag in the ranks, the Delhi Daredevils were expected to struggle. Indeed at three down for sixty-four, it was not looking rosy at all. Irfan Pathan and Venugopal Rao provided resistance and in doing so, even gave off the impression that the Delhi Daredevils could possibly pull off the incredible. However, forty-four runs for Irfan Pathan and thirty runs for Venugopal Rao were never goign to be enough against the huge Chennai total. With Hopes unable to provide any finish in the end, the Delhi team had to settle for a loss by eighteen runs with Ravichandran Ashwin and Dwayne Bravo providing double breakthroughs to put the brakes on the Daredevils in the IPL 4.
