IPL 4 Match 70: Mumbai Indians Stun Kolkata Knight Riders in Last Ball, 22 Run over Finish

The Mumbai Indians looked out of it at the half way stage. Actually they looked out of it when they needed twenty-two runs off the final over to win the match. And yet the Kolkata Knight Riders were given a shock at the Eden Gardens in the 70th IPL 4 match and the final match in the IPL 4 league stage.

The Kolkata Knight Riders had Jacques Kallis at the top adding fifty-nine runs to strengthen their efforts at the top even though they lost two wickets by the score on twenty-two. Manoj Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan and Ryan ten Doeschate scored useful cameo knocks that furthered the Kolkata Knight Riders' healthy scoring rate to a tall order of 175 runs.

It appeared that Mumbai Indians may be hurtling to yet another defeat in the latter part of the IPL 4 season to end up dispirited ahead of the IPL 4 playoffs. However, the script was not written yet.

Sachin Tendulkar found an unlikely partner in Harbhajan Singh who was elevated to the no.3 spot and together they rebuilt the innings rocked early by the wicket of Tirumalasetti Suman to Iqbal Abdulla.

The Kolkata Knight Riders continued to beam as the second wicket partnership was broken with the score on seventy and Harbhajan Singh having knocked off thirty runs. That was because it triggered a mini collapse, leading to the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Tendulkar himself for thirty-eight runs as Rajat Bhatia delivered a triple strike for Kolkata.

At four down for ninety-six half way through the thirteenth over, the Mumbai Indians had Kieron Pollard, James Franklin and Ambati Rayudu, but were against the tide that suggested that the Kolkata Knight Riders had this game sealed. Or so most had thought.

Pollard pocketed eighteen runs but the might of the innings belonged to the inspired inclusion of the New Zealand all rounder, James Franklin, and Ambati Rayudu who continues to keep his Mumbai Indians skipper mesmerized. Franklin rocketed with his forty-five runs from only twenty-three balls, but it was Rayudu in the end who provided the blitz, scoring seventeen runs from six balls as the Mumbai Indians knocked off twenty-two runs in the final over for a stunning victory!
