Lalit Modi, the IPL Chairman and Commissioner, announced that the IPL Awards Function, the first of its kind, will take place on the 23rd of April, before the IPL 3 final.

An award night to be hosted by Bollywood's Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar will also see other Bollywood personalities such as Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Katrina Kaif and A.R. Rehman.
There will be awards plenty, aired on the Colors channel, from the most fan-friendly cricketer, award for which retired Indian cricket legend the IPL captains would have loved to have in their squad, to best ground, best IPL debutant, best stadium experience, most consistent performer, most dramatic performance, best fielder, best bowler, best batsman, breakthrough performance (also breakthrough performances for 2008 and 2009) (under critics awards) and maximum runs scored in boundaries, fastest century, most economical bowler (in statistical terms).
The panel for the critics’ choice awards include Lalit Modi, cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar, Brian Lara and Javagal Srinath, the world’s leading umpire, Simon Taufel, and commentator Harsha Bhogle.
