Matters are coming to a head between the IPL franchisee owners and the BCCI as was evident in Thursday's meet where a majority of the IPL owners opposed the player retention policy going into IPL 4.

The BCCI meeting with the IPL franchisees failed to resolve several issues, although the meeting was convened in a bid for the BCCI to reacquaint itself with the various franchisee owners of the ten teams for IPL 4 in the aftermath of the fiasco involving Lalit Modi.
Amongst one of the issues that did not see eye to eye was the subjet of player retention. While most of the team owners including Vijay Mallya of the Royal Challengers Bangalore was opposed to the idea of retaining four Indian cricketers and three foreign cricketers going into the IPL 4 auctions, the Mumbai Indians ( belonging to Mukesh and Nita Ambani ) and the Chennai Super Kings ( of which Mr. N. Srinivasan is only a benefactor) are believed to be quite content to retain some of the players they have formed association with over the past three years. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are involved as captains and key players repectively.
With no definite resolution found, the matter has now been referred to the IPL Governing Council, consisting of Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and MAK Pataudi, to deduce and arrive at a decision.
