IPL, Not ODI Series against West Indies of Chief Revelance to the BCCI

--> -->

Only they would never say it. However, given the decisions made by the BCCI with regards to the two tournaments, it takes reading between the lines to understand the gravity of how the sport is being polarized in the interests of the board and not necessarily in the interest of world cricket.

India in West Indies
India in West Indies

The BCCI was quick and sharp to let the chairman of selectors, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, made a quick announcement and make a quick slip of an exit before being bombarded by the mass of reporters.The Indian team for the West Indies was revised, and announced and expectedly all those players who sneezed were held back.

The largesse of the board is only a cover up for a bigger personal agenda at hand. It is now apparent the world over that the only reason one cricket board indulges another more than the others is because of what will accrue in its coffers. In that sense, what the BCCI has done is merely cash in on its dominance.

It is no hidden matter that every team wants to play the Indian cricket team at present. That is because of India’s standing as well as its mass popularity which brings in the much needed finance. In that sense, it only makes sense of board to indulge the BCCI when it comes knocking on their door for an ad hoc Test series even if it is only to stretch India’s hold at the top as the no.1 Test team in the world.

By the same measurement, the board is seeking opportunities where it has something to gain. As a natural extension of their superiority in the matter, the BCCI knows that the IPL will draw international players to the Twenty20 pool like bees to honey. And it als oknows that the West Indies is not in a position to dictate authority which basically means the West Indies will have to take a half Indian team ( actually woefully less than half ) rather than a full strength Indian cricket team by fighting for what is its right.

With the West Indies cricket board not really in a position to complain, it can be said that the BCCI have pulled off a coup and without using the words to describe what can only be its agenda- the IPL is important from its perspective, the tour of the West Indies is merely an obligation the board knows how to work around. Is it time for the ICC to step in?
