When a player is representing his country, it is natural that much is written and said about him. But what about a former cricketer who cannot seem to get enough of his fans, enough to take the thunder away from the Ashes? Or is the Australian cricket team to blame for it?

Shane Warne cannot keep quiet. That has been established about the legendary leg spin bowler who has been the saviour in the eyes of the Australian cricket fans and media who are feeding his ego by urging him to urgently save Australia from losing the Ashes urn down under.
What is lost on them in this desperation is the fact that Warne has already moved on from being the active cricketer he was. He plays Twenty20 out of passion but is wary of a body that may not hold up in a Test match any longer. On the unfavourable side of forty, even if Warne did return, it would reflect rather poorly on Australia's cricket set up which would be something given that many think Australia cannot sink further than they have.
What has perhaps put fans onto Warne rather than the third Test of the Ashes 2010 that is about to get underway in Perth is the fact that in the dismal times for Australian cricket, Warne is providing the entertainment - whether it is through his favourite mouthpiece- television commentary, his colourful lifestyle which now includes a reported dalliance with Liz Hurley with both of them having chucked away their respective marriages and his own egging of the fans by continuing to tease them about the possibility of a return to Australian cricket.
Perhaps Warne needs his fans as much as fans need him. After all, who would not like to wake up and think the world needs him? It is a huge ego boost and given Warne's persona, modesty was never a trait that sat easy with him. While Warne's talent is undeniable, what is also not is that perhaps it is best Warne is sneaking attention out of the cricket field, because he can do so much off it while the Ashes 2010 is on, imagine the pandemonium when he takes to the field. Australian cricket could certainly do without more drama.
