New Zealand's Jacob Oram has made it clear that he'll chop off his injured ring finger but will no way miss the World Cup.

Oram fractured the ring finger on his left hand during the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy ODI. He said:

"If it means cutting the finger off, if that's the worse case scenario, if that's the last resort, I'll do that, there's no way I'm missing this."

Apparently, no player would like to miss the grand gala and would go beyond anybody's comprehension to flaunt the power of the punches they have been pumping for all the blood for which they seized their thirst for so long.

No doubt, the Oram's cry, 'I'll chop it off' shows the spirit players are driven with before the grand finale but call me cynical, by simply chopping it off is not the last resort in this worst-case scenario for the World Cup while there are other options. The all-rounder has been issued with four custom-made splints to protect the damaged finger on his left hand, including a fibreglass-style sheath that has to be boiled and then moulded to his rehabilitating digit; there are painkilling injections with another option.

I think one have to admire his patriotism and his determination but hey, it's all-important to have your little pinkies in place to handle the cricket bat before getting back to hitting sixes.
