Jacob Oram belongs to that small set of cricketers who are not only discomforted by the surrounding drama that revolves around the IPL but also, is voicing it at his own peril.

Perhaps the IPL franchisees are more discerning, not looking into a player's comments but rather picking them on merit. New Zealand all rounder Jacob Oram would certainly hope so because he was rather forthcoming on what he thought of the IPL, particularly the IPL 4 season.

Oram came on board for the Rajasthan Royals after Paul Collingwood was ruled out. However, Oram has not been a big part of the Rajasthan Royals playing eleven which may explain some of the disconnect he is said to have experienced.

However, Oram is once again drawing light to the fact that the IPL is as much about the cricket on the field as it is for its off field activities that include late night parties, rather after match parties, the fashion shows, cheerleaders and all.

The package, however, does not seem to have appealed to Oram who was contracted to the Chennai Super Kings, whose captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is also someone who does not avail himself for these post parties and rather keeps his business to the field.

Although in light of the controversies that broke out during the IPL 3 season and the subsequent ouster of Lalit Modi, the IPL governing council had put a clamp on the official IPL after match parties. However, as the fired Mumbai Indians cheerleader, Gabriella Pasqualotto, pointed out, the sponsor after match parties were on and teams have been generally seen mingling with starlets, cheerleaders, etc at these do's.

Though some cricketers have called the entire Bollywood angle, the after parties, all a bit of a distraction, tiresome sometimes even, they have generally accepted that this is part of the package that is the IPL. But that it can sometimes come in the way of an otherwise cricket tour was described by Oram as taking away from the reality of the situation, even suggesting what some have been surreptitiously complaining that the cricket is merely a side show.
