He is a perfect match winner. He is known to hit big sixes. He can be any bowler's nightmare. It is not for nothing that the world cricket fears this man. Sanath Jayasuriya wins another game for Srilanka. This time against Bangladesh. The victory means a berth for Sri Lanka in to the Super Eight stage, and leaves India and Bangladesh to battle it out for the second place in Group B.

Sanath Jayasuriya was at his majestic best when the team was put to bat by Habibul Bashar, the Bangladeshi captain. The decision backfired when the smashing opener regained his magic touch hitting seven fours and seven huge sixes amassing 109 runs off just 89balls. The century, his 24th, helped Jayasuriya climb to the second spot after Sachin Tendulkar (41) in the list for most one-day hundreds. This leaves Australian captain Ricky Ponting (23) at the third place. The hundred that came with a swashbuckling six off spinner Abdur Razzak over midwicket, was also his second in World Cup in his fifth appearance.
Jayasuriya dominated a 98-run opening partnership with left-hander Upul Tharanga (26) before Kumar Sangakkara (56) and Chamara Silva (52 not out) notched their second consecutive fifties in the tournament. Skipper Mahela Jayawardene too contributed in the batting feast with a chancy 46. Though, Jayasuriya's innings was divided in two halves, he never seemed uncomfortable. He retired hurt after having limped off clutching his left leg at a personal score of 83, but soon returned to reach the three figure mark.
Bangladesh never appeared to be in the game, neither in batting nor bowling. Srilanka won a well deserved match, in which everyone contributed. With this victory, Srilanka reached the super eight. Now, it is up to the Indians to amass all their energy in the forthcoming game against the Lankan Tigers on March 23. The match will be no less than a semifinal for team India. With Jayasuriya back in home, would make things more difficult for the men in blue. A victory would mean a place in Super eight, whereas a loss would ensure their return back home.
