
Sanath Jayasuriya completed his 20th ODI century and claimed three wickets including Kevin Pietersen’s wicket during the crucial hour of the match to give Sri Lanka a 46-run win over England in the second ODI of the five match series.
Jayasuriya faced 136 balls to score 122 with 15 fours and 2 sixes after skipper the visitors opted for bat first. The brilliant century by Jayasuriya empowered the Sri Lankan to post a mammoth 319/8 at The Oval.
Chasing the target, the hosts were restricted to 273 with 3.2 overs to spare. Kevin Pitersen led the host challenges. He went on a rampage in the middle of the match scoring 73 off 76 balls. Before he could turn the match, Jayasuriya tactfully obtained the wicket of Pitersen when the home side was 176 for four in 32 overs.
