Jayawardene Should Make Captaincy Comeback

The Sri Lankan captain is being asked to change his mind, though he appears as resolute as ever. But some think he may not have thought this through.

Given outgoing skipper Mahela Jayawardene’s performance in the first Test against Pakistan in national stadium in Karachi, former commentators and cricketers from Sri Lanka are indirectly appealing that Mahela should stay on as at least Test skipper.

Mahela Jayawardene had announced at the end of the one day series against India in Sri Lanka that he would be stepping down from the captaincy after the Test series in Pakistan. While he has had his problems scoring runs in the one day internationals (ODI’s) lately, people feel given his century in the first Test, he should work on his batting in the ODI’s while at least retaining the Test captaincy.

Mahela does not appear to be wavering, but can they convince him enough?
