New Zealand have paid in casualty for their gruelling fight against the world's no.1 Test team. Jesse Ryder will not be doing the fighting anymore for a while, including in the India New Zealand ODI series.

Jesse Ryder has been nursing a calf injury that got progressively worse as the series wore on. Injuring himself in the first Test when he scored a defiant Test century, Ryder carried on, knowing fully well how key a role he could play for New Zealand.
But Ryder's troubles became acute in the course of the third Test in Nagpur that New Zealand lost to lose the series. Requiring a runner, Ryder could not carry on, and the nature of his injury has now forced him to miss the India New Zealand ODI series coming up.
Although New Zealand have already named their team, James Franklin will now take Ryder's place in the team for the five ODIs in which there are plenty of Indian cricketers rested as well.
