Johnson in the Lead Again As Clark Set Back Further

Mitchell Johnson led the way for the Australian attack against South African in the absence of Stuart Clark and with Brett Lee’s indifference. Now it appears his role will be extended as neither bowler will be making the second leg of the battle.

Brett Lee has already been ruled out of the Australian party traveling to South Africa in February for the return series. Now it appears Ricky Ponting’s hopes of getting a derailed Australia back on track is likely to have to make do without Stuart Clark.

Clark underwent surgery three weeks ago to remove bone spurs from his elbow. But it appears his recovery is likely to take longer than expected and the Australian selection committee is not in a rush to push Clark’s case given that Australia have a grueling schedule in the forthcoming year and not least amongst these the Ashes in England later this year.

Graeme Smith and his men may be in more luck though they are only perhaps letting it sink in that they are the new number one, no matter how long it lasts.
