The South African cricketer had surgery on the tennis elbow injury, which has affected his leading arm since November. Shuaib Manjra, chairperson of CSA's medical committee said the initial diagnosis that surgery was required has been confirmed.

Kallis should rest for at least 10 to 12 weeks for full healing. Keeping team's perspective in the world cup next year, the CSA has decided to rest veteran Kallis for the Sri Lanka tour. Kallis's unavailability will put his team in pressure in the Asian soil. Coach Micky Arthur said he was disappointed to miss the all-rounder for the Sri Lanka tour from July 19 to August 30.
