A furious Suresh Kalmadi lashed out at the BCCI over its decision not to send an Indian cricket team for the Asian Games in China.

The IOA ( Indian Olympics Association ) President believed cricket was only about the money, “It has become commercial...cricket has become very commercial. (In Olympic and Asian Games) There are only medals, no money. So, I don't think anybody from cricket world will be interested in taking part.”
Kalmadi stated that the BCCI’s decision not to send a men’s or women’s cricket team was not surprising, “They (BCCI) had done it in ( 1998 ) Malaysia Commonwealth Games also. They sent a second string team there. So I was never keen and I did not put cricket into Commonwealth Games. I knew they won't make it, they will back out at the last minute. They said they would come to Asian Games, but they backed out. I knew this.”
He added, “Cricket should not be included in the Olympic sports, it is a different game, a commercial game. And Olympic sports are different. There is a different focus is those games. That is why cricket and Olympic sports should be kept apart.” He also stated that he was against cricket being a part of such games because “Olympics sports get hurt.”
Kalmadi’s comments were also echoed in the words of Mary Kom, India’s four time world boxing champion, who also raised the motivations, “It is better to represent India at the Asian Games. Every athlete wants to represent his country at the Games. The BCCI is only interested in earning money through competitions like the IPL. I am not earning that much money, but I am participating for my country and getting lots of medals.”
