Kevin Pietersen Misses India, World Cup and IPL 4; Eoin Morgan to Come in for England

Even as England managed to win a nail biter against South Africa in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, the initial attempts to nurse Kevin Pietersen through the World Cup has not borne fruit and he is now leaving India for that impending surgery with a broken heart.

The surgery though is not for a broken heart but rather a hernia problem that apparently first cropped up in Australia. Although it was earlier speculated and confirmed as much that Kevin Pietersen would get himself through the duration of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 with the help of the support, it now appears that KP has stretched himself too much to recover or even hold his condition from getting any worse.

As a result, the team took stock of the fact that KP is only apparently aggravating himself, they have now made the tough decision to let KP go ahead with the surgery and treatment even if it means having to let go of his services through the rest of the World Cup campaign.

Kevin Pietersen himself took to his Twitter page to reveal to the world his bitter disappointment at having to cut short this trip and also, of the fact that he will not be able to play in the IPL ( which was already confirmed ) for the Deccan Chargers this year.

This is what KP wrote:

Confirming the BREAKING NEWS ... I fly home tonight. Out of the WC & IPL.. Absolutely devastated!

Sad to leave India.. Love the people & the hospitality!

While it is devastating for KP, England's plans, after four tight matches, will now be forced to make changes, particularly at the top of the order since Kevin Pietersen has been opening alongside the England captain, Andrew Strauss, thus far. His part time slow bowling will also be missed as it proved handy against South Africa yesterday in Chennai.

Ironically Eoin Morgan was not expected to make a quick recovery post a fractured finger is now expected to take KP's place in the squad. Morgan himself caused quite a stir when he took to Twitter to show he was ready for the challenge even as the ECB fought back queries over why a hasty decision had been made about Morgan.

After getting through two tough matches down to the wire against the Netherlands and South Africa, playing for a tie against India and losing in shocking fashion to Ireland, England have it all to do if they want to make sure they add the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 trophy to their Ashes success and to being crowned champions of the ICC World Twenty20 2010.
