Mahendra Singh Dhoni was first rooting for Gary Kirsten to continue on as India's coach. Now he is singing a different tune, by Gary's design of course.

It is no hidden matter that members of the Indian team are keen that the BCCI renew Kirsten's contract beyond the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. While the BCCI is more interested in how India performs in South Africa and thereafter in the world cup, the senior members realize that Kirsten is on South Africa's radar as well and are keen that the coach that they rate highly continue on in his services for the Indian cricket team.

However, Dhoni is perhaps balancing the aspirations with the reality of the situation which is that Kirsten will be weighing the options before him before he settles into an Indian contract once more. As reiterated before, Kirsten's concerns revolve around his South Africa based family that includes wife and two children and a contract with the Indian team will take him further away from the time he spends with them.

While money on offer is quite lavish by cricketing terms and it is believed that South Africa may lose the battle when it comes to matching pay offers, Kirsten's family concerns have also caused Dhoni to adopt a pragmatic view of things whereby he is now suggesting that Kirsten may not necessarily renew his contract with the Indian team.

At the moment, there is a lot more hanging in the air and India will refocus their eyes on the South African cricket team.
