With injuries rendering both, Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth, out of the contest, the Indian team's bowling experience had only one name - Harbhajan Singh. Bhajji had however missed the tour match, down with flu related fever.
However, India had few options goign into the Test which is why when Harbhajan Singh volunteered to play, nobody suggested he rest, "We had to play Harbhajan today (Monday) though he is still recovering from flu. He is not in full fitness yet but you know we need him in the team. If he had not played we would have been really inexperienced. He is a gutsy cricketer. He said he wanted to play."
Although India had another spinner in Pragyan Ojha, their fast bowlign area have caused grave concerns.
