BCCI’s selection committee has announced a 15-member squad for the Sri Lanka tri-series. Middle-order batsman Dinesh Mongia deserves a place in the squad, while batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has made a comeback.
The left-handed batsman Mongia earned the recall for his high-quality performance in the County matches in England. Justifying Mongia’s selection, the chairperson of national selection committee Kiran More said,
Dinesh is the ideal cricketer as he bowls left-arm spin, and has bowled very well in county cricket and domestic cricket. His plus point is his batting, and of course his fielding. That’s where the all-rounder comes in.
However, the selection committee has overlooked the leggy Anil Kumble. It would ignite another round of debate in the cricketing fraternity regarding Anil Kumble’s credibility.
The veteran leg spinner spearheaded India’s 1-0 series win in the Caribbean islands few days ago. It seems that selection committee still considers Kumble as a Test specialist.
India will play against host Sri Lanka and visitors South Africa in the Tri-Series from August 14 to 29.
