Anil Kumble’s debut in Bollywood was delayed by news that he was retiring from international cricket. But perhaps like some of the perfectionists in the business such as Aamir Khan, Kumble is apparently not enjoying certain aspects of his debut release, “Meerabai Not Out.”
While Mandira Bedi chalks out her career once more entangled with cricket, the movie itself deals with a lady obsessed about the game and Anil Kumble in particular so much so that it begins to have its effect on her marriage. The movie also stars, Eijaz Khan, Anupan Kher and Mahesh Manjrekar among others. The movie is scheduled for release today.
Kumble, who earlier posed happily and obliged movie goers with a part in this movie centred around him as the cricketer Mandira’s character is crazy about, is now distancing himself from the promos.
The reason? Well, Kumble, it appears, is not happy about the extent of Meerabai’s fantasy. In the promos, Mandira is seen clutching the cut out of Kumble while in bed with her movie-husband. And the cut out is life size and in surreal fashion, almost life like. That has perhaps rattled the otherwise unflappable, tireless servant of the game.
Not given to exhibitionism or such overt displays, Kumble is certainly feeling hot under the collar. Guess he now at least knows the feeling when facing a few wily ones himself. (Is that the noise of a few batsmen chuckling in the background?)
