Wayne Parnell apparently had a green laser light pointed in his direction at the time of trying to take a catch to dismiss Mike Hussey. Hussey eventually went onto make a crucial half century and developed a strong partnership of one short of seventy runs with Cameron White to get Australia to a 2-0 victory at the Gabba in Brisbane in the Twenty20 internationals.
Peter Young, Cricket Australia's public affairs manager, stated that this was not in keeping with the cordiality of the game, "It’s just not cricket to do this sort of thing, it’s stupid."
Though the South Africans have not lodged a formal complaint and Mickey Arthur, the South African coach, has played down the issue saying the distraction did not affect the team, Young said, "Cricket Australia has apologised to them that this has happened while they are guests in this country and they have accepted that apology."
