Mitchell Johnson Continues to Turn down the IPL Millions; Too Much Cricket To Blame

--> -->

In an age where cricketers continue to sign by the dozens for the lucrative Twenty20 circus, Mitchell Johnson, for one, continues to shun the money. Why would a modern day cricketer pass up such an opportunity?

Australian fast bowler, Mitchell Johnson, bounced back after being dropped for the second Test of the Ashes 2010 by starring in Australia's win in the third Test in Perth. The manner in which he has rebounded, one would have thought he would be one of the hottest picks of the IPL 4 auctions.

But here's the catch. Mitchell Johnson's name does not feature in the IPL 4 players auction list. It may lead one to wonder why despite three successful seasons of the IPL, it has failed to entice one of cricket's most sensational cricketers?

According to Johnson himself and his agent, Johnson's focus is purely on his international career for Australia, particularly in the five day format. With the Test cap, comes tremendous responsibility and apparently Johnson has a clear head on his shoulders that tells him his body can only take so much of the grind, and he would like to spend it all on a decade long career playing for Australia whereas IPL would constitute IPL as excess cricket that the cricketer can apparently do without, even with an enticing salary like $1.5 millions. Takes a lot to turn down that kind of money, but Johnson has his priorities straight and he knows where he wants to train the speed gun.
