Lalit Modi is unwilling to let another IPL season go by without the presence of key Australian cricketers. In a veiled threat, the IPL Chairman and Commissioner, has issued a stern warning about the future participation of Australia in India's Twenty20 competition.

Even as it is rumoured that Cricket Australia is planning an IPL Style league of its own to replace the Big Bash Twenty20, Modi is unwilling to accept that the Australian cricketers may be absent for a second year in a row.
All the Australian cricketers associated with the national team failed to show up for the IPL 2 season held in South Africa during their commitment to playing Pakistan. Now with the domestic Sheffield Shield competition clashing with the dates of the IPL 3 which had to be preponed to avoid clashing with the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies, Modi is adamant that those Australian cricketers who have signed up with the IPL must participate.
Modi pointed out to the loophole in the system wherein, the players would be excluded if they were involved in the Future Tours Programme (FTP) but the clause did not state domestic commitments. With the domestic teams refusing to let go of the players, Modi believes threat may be the only way and has stated that if the Australian cricketers skip the tournament for a second year, there will be measures to terminate the players' contracts as well as disallow the participation of Australia's state teams in the Champions League Twenty20, the first edition won by New South Wales Blues.
