The controversy surrounding the new IPL team for IPL 4 took an ugly turn after the franchisee owners alleged that the IPL Chairman and Commissioner tried to bribe them out of the bid, an insinuation Lalit Modi says, he will fight legally.

"We were offered $50 million by Modi to withdraw from the Kochi team," alleged the CEO of the Kochi franchisee, Shailendra Gaikwad.
The Kochi team is furious that Modi continued to tow the line, even at the press conference about the IPL Awards and IPL 4 dates, that there were doubts about the real owners of the Kochi franchisee.
They even went onto state that "We went through the process in the right manner and won the bid. But within 10 days of winning the bid, Modi offered us $50 million to give away the rights of the IPL franchise." That allegation was also backed by Shashi Taroor, the Minister of State for External Affairs who is at the centre of the controversy after he said Modi had dragged Sunanda Pushkar into the limelight.
But Lalit Modi says that the statement is a fabrication and that he intends to take action via legal channels.
