Lalit Modi, the suspended IPL Chairman and Commissioner, has decided to sue the ECB Chairman, Giles Clarke, for defamation and claims that he was against unauthorized cricket and therefore, would have never agreed to help start a rebel league.

Modi is apparently claiming that rather than him approaching, it was the England county teams that approached him to help organize Twenty20 around a league similar to the IPL and with the ECB's approval.

Modi further states that he himself was working with the ICC cricket committee to prevent unauthorized cricket such as the ICL and therefore, would never have wanted to work behind the ECB's back.
