After all the hullabaloo over the inclusion of Mohammad Yousuf, speculation was rife over why he was left out after being recalled to the Pakistan team.

The Pakistan team for the second Test against England did not include Yousuf. But the reason is not the Pakistan captain Salman Butt's reluctance but rather due to the fact that Yousuf had barely landed twenty-four hours earlier after a ten hour journey.
Apart from being jet lagged, it was felt by the team management that Yousuf could use the rest and the time before the third Test to get in some practice.
The Pakistan team manager, Yawar Saeed, stated it as much, "Yousuf is not playing this Test while we have decided to give Kamran (Akmal) a rest so that he can regain his confidence and form. He (Yousuf) has not played any cricket since February and obviously, he himself understand he needs time to make a comeback to Test cricket. The good thing is that there is a gap before the Third test. We also have a tour match which will allow Yousuf to get some competitive cricket and in the meantime also have regular nets."
Akmal, it appears has paid the price for several dropped chances in the first Test of the series, forcing the team to sit him out of the second.
