Regardless of being cleared by a number of scientific studies the stigma of being called a 'chucker' appears to live with Sri Lankan spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan.

Recently, the Indian veteran and star spinner Bishen Singh Bedi who has been a long-time Murali critic, cited Murali's bowling action illegal and christened him as a 'cheat'.
In retaliation, Muralitharan is on an outburst and is all set to take legal action against Bedi for his condescending remarks.
Standing tall, Murali's unique bowling action coupled with his ability to amass wickets has made him one of the most famous cricketers of modern times with just eight wickets short to level Australian Shane Warne's world test record of 708 wickets.
Cricket's governing body the ICC has endorsed bowlers by allowing extensions or hyperextensions of the bowling arm of up to 15 degrees. Murali however falls within the agreed limit prescribed, so how come the spinning wizard is being bothered under numerous occasions.
The controversies came to a head on Murali after Australian umpire Darrell Hair during a match at Melbourne called his bowling action as 'chucking' or throwing the ball. Accompanied by endless debates confronting the bowling action throughout his cricketing career the ICC rules his action legal.
For now, the Sri-Lankan cricket needs to deal with reality in adopting stern ruling and make a solid stand in front of the ICC to avoid any further assault to the living legend, Murali.
