Cricket in sub-continent is dubbed as a religion, but that is no excuse for the general lack of perspective in common cricket fans. Quite often the game is taken too seriously and the consequences of a defeat too far. It is at this point that fate steps in and lets you know in a cruel way that life is more important and far beyond just a sport.

So another phase of investigation begins into the reasons that lead to the death of former Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer. With the inquest into his death, the road ahead will only be ugly and tough to tread.

With the pathologist Nathaniel Cary, who did the initial post-mortem, now says that a mistake had been made about the inference, and things are bound to be more messy. The initial report - Cary had given - indicated that Bob was ’strangled to death after being given a sedative.’ But the new twist in the tale comes as Cary confessed to making an error in her report.

The much publicized sad tale was thought to be a direct consequence of the fact that Pakistan lost to minnows Ireland in a league match, the defeat leading to their exile from the World Cup 2007. Many attached the death to the dark side of match fixing and as an incident that highlighted the existence of mafia in cricket. But the second post-mortem revealed that death was accidental, throwing the entire case into a spin. With even the help of Scotland Yard sought, the case still seems unclear at best.
