Politics and cricket go hand in hand in Pakistan. In that light, former Pakistan President, General Pervez Musharaf has urged authorities to take a considerate view of the eighteen year old fast bowler in the eye of the storm.

Musharraf touched upon Mohammad Aamer's family background before imploring that Aamer be made an example but not at the cost of his family. Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt have been suspended by the ICC following the spot fixing allegations that emerged during the England Pakistan Test series at Lord's in the course of the fourth Test after agent/bookie Mazhar Majeed revealed match fixing matters to an undercover reporter.

Musharraf had this to say of Aamer, "This boy, I would say, is hardly a man at 18, who came under the influence of senior players, needs to be seen compassionately for the sake of his family and for the sake of cricket at large. It's a very sad incident.

"Instead of destroying a person, rehabilitation of the person is required. We need to do everything to rehabilitate him and set an example for others."

Aamer's age and talent seem to be influencing a great many voices to emphatize with the young man's predicament, even in serious view of the nature of the allegations.
