Muttiah Muralitharan finished his Test career with 800 Test wickets, a record in itself. But he ended his bowling spell with a wicket off the final ball he would bowl in Test cricket.

Now in the victory against New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final, Muttiah Muralitharan picked up his second wicket of the match off the final ball of his spell, finishing his ODI cricket career in front of home audiences in a similar manner.

Muralitharan now has one more match to go with Sri Lanka going into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where there should be an enthralling encounter with fellow Asian giants, either India or Pakistan depending on who wins the India v Pakistan ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final in Mohali.

Muralitharan has already tasted World Cup victory once before in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 under Arjuna Ranatunga. Can he finish on a high once more? After all that has been his burning desire in the one day cricket format.
