Former Ohio state coach John Cooper once famously remarked that there are two type of coaches - those who have been fired and those who will be fired. In a world where coach’s head roll after every failure, cricket board in New Zealand reposed faith in John Bracewell and retained the coach till April 2009.
Under Bracewell, who took over the reins six years back, the Blackcaps may not have set all Test records on fire but their one day performance has been quite impressive and that includes their semifinal appearance in the World Cup in West Indies.
Elated after his re-appointment, Bracewell admitted that the team needed to set its Test record straight and ensure they perform well just not in patches.
He said
We need to stabilise our game plan in the one-day game, but we need to become a harder unit in Test cricket. We need to become more consistent.
In another significant move, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) also roped in former captain and ex-India coach John Wright in a high performance role.
NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said Wright brings with his loads of experience at the top level and the board hopes to benefit from his contribution.
Besides, NZC also appointed former Australian player Mark O’Neill as batting coach and former Kiwi pacer Dayle Hadlee as the bowling coach.
