Krishnamachari Srikkanth happens to be the chairman of selectors. He also happens to be the brand ambassador for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He also happens to have been signed on exclusively by a news channel to share his thoughts.
It is only after India slipped badly in the ICC World Twenty20 in England and now lost one of the two ODIs in the West Indies that the world is waking up to realize that Srikkanth should perhaps not be talking as much as he is to the media.
Previously Mahendra Singh Dhoni had also been signed on during the Twenty20 tournament, adding to the grievances of other channels. The moment Indian coach and former South African batsman, Gary Kirsten, spoke out about the fatigue factor in the Indian team, the BCCI slapped a gag order on him.
Dilip Vengsarkar also suffered a similar fate before Srikkanth when he was banned from writing his regular columns in newspapers while holding the post of the chairman of selectors. While many are focusing on the recent Indian debacle, the question is – why were no measures put in ink after the fiasco with Vengsarkar to prevent what may happen to Srikkanth now?
