Pakistan won the second Test in Wellington by 141 runs to set up a thrilling clash for the third and final Test in Napier which will also see Iain O'Brien play his final Test for New Zealand.
Taylor's defiance after New Zealand found themselves at three down for seventy was not enough to give New Zealand enough to push the match to the fifth day. This is the second time that Taylor has missed a century in as many Tests against Pakistan, with his ninety-three in Dunedin in the first Test.
New Zealand were always going to struggle chasing 405, and the fact only the New Zealand captain, Daniel Vettori, managed forty runs to be the next top scorer of the innings pretty much tells the story. Mohammad Asif has been the star without doubt, with a five-for in the second innings to go with four wickets in the first.
