New Zealand were chasing an interesting total midway through the final day of the third Test and the final day of Pakistan's tour to New Zealand before rain denied a result in the series.

New Zealand were ninety for no loss when the skies opened and denied a thrilling climax to a hard fought series. New Zealand managed to bring Pakistan to a halt on 455 after the Akmal brothers once again got into the rescue act. New Zealand's efforts though on the morning of day five, through wicket contributions of Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain, Iain O'Brien who announced his retirement, upcoming Tim Southee and surprise package in Martin Guptill, ensured that New Zealand were chasing an attainable target of 208, although time proved a crucial factor in the match.
It would have been interesting to see if New Zealand threw the kitchen sink in the attempt, as debutant BJ Watling was impressive on sixty not out but rain had the final say, leaving the series perhaps fair at 1-1.
