Just when one thoughts things could not get any worse for Australia, they did. Two days after losing the ICC ODI world’s top ranking after losing the series to South Africa, Australia have been all at sea against New Zealand and Hussey claims that the time was right to bounce back apparently did not seep through.

In one of the most shocking performances, Australia plummeted to a total and in a manner that does not do them justice. To be five down for only fifty on board and then, to lose wickets in a heap towards the end when only 150 on board would have been something expected of a novice team, not of a team who was number one only two days ago.
The first match of the Chappell Hadlee Trophy is becoming something of a not to be missed affair as New Zealand employed two spinners in skipper Daniel Vettori and Jeetan Patel to further tighten the screws on the hosts after the fast bowlers made the inroads into a derailed Australian batting line up that included Kyle Mills accounting for both belligerent openers, David Warner and Shaun Marsh, in his four wicket haul.
Salvage did come in the form of a partnership between Michael Hussey (49) and Brad Haddin (31) but it was nowhere enough in restoring confidence in the Australians who are playing like they could not save their life even if they wanted to.
