India managed to wrap up another successful campaign against the Sri Lanka in the one day series with a victory as emphatic as it gets.

India raced to their ninth consecutive win in a row in one day internationals surpassing the previous efforts of the many great and ensuring that Dhoni’s captaincy is already writing a glorious little chapter of its own. Beating the previous record of eight on the trot, held by the captaincy of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, should not have been hard for the men in blue given the belligerence they have displayed to extinguish the feeble candle of the Sri Lankans.
The Sri Lankans did not have an easy task on their hand chasing 333 for victory and though all their six top order batsmen got into double digit figures, including Kumar Sangakkara’s second successive half century, there is little firepower in the Sri Lankan camp that was lit to match Gautam Gambhir’s big century of 150 and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s ninety-four. Wickets that fell in heaps in the middle of the campaign did not help Sri Lanka who could have used a steadier hand to guide them through to challenging the Indians in the latter half of the innings. Rohit Sharma did not get much of an opportunity to prove himself again but Irfan Pathan made the most of it, scalping three important wickets.
There was little to flatter to deceive as Sri Lanka have been a poor comparison to India right through the series. India are now once again playing to challenge themselves.
