Not two days ago, the media was going berserk, much like Sehwag did against the Kiwis. But the fall has been low but not cushioned as India failed to make a clean sweep of things.

Virender Sehwag’s fastest ODI hundred by an Indian two days ago was the highlight of the show and the Indian part of the world was going gaga about whether this Indian team was the best composition or the most consistent. Perhaps a little too casual about winning the fifth and rather insignificant ODI given that the series has already been won, the result certainly suggested it.
Only Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, who replaced Sachin Tendulkar, managed to hit decent runs, Sharma in particular a better showing than he has in recent months. But the rest of the Indian line up lacked the intensity or purpose. Their despondent 149 was also exaggerated when they had effectively collapsed for 5 down for 110 when skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni departed.
The rain curtailed game, like most in this series, in Eden Park was also marked by Jesse Ryder once again putting up his hand. His three wickets to go with his opening blast of sixty-three put New Zealand in firm control of the match. It also went according to plan as far as New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori was concerned. Vettori was keen that his team getting some winning momentum ahead of the Test series starting in four days’ time and he would say it was a clinical day at the office, one that India may only brush off as a one off lapse.
